Just had a very delicious lunch at WALAKU a cozy and laid-back café bistro whose name, in street slang, means “I am prosperous.”Their fusion menu is a true culinary adventure, featuring everything from Nasi Lemak Bakar Sets in various styles to pasta, seafood buckets, and local flavor-packed sides to share. Indulge in their Martabak super, waffles, gelatos, and an array of drinks. It’s a vibrant mix of Asian cuisine all in one spot—perfect for everyone looking to explore different flavors in one place! What we had:*Sambal Sotong Set 14Tender squid with a fiery sambal sauce made from a paste of chili peppers, shallots, and tamarind.*Udang Petai Set 14Succulent prawns with the distinctively pungent beans of the petai plant, all stir-fried in a savory chili paste. Both sets came with very fragrant basmati rice roasted in wrapped banana leaves with a notions of lemongrass. So lovely! Chili was sweet & tasty & not too spicy. I love the healthier hard boiled eggs instead of fried ones. The peanuts and ikan bilis were so crispy and good quality!*We had the Banella (banana Nutella) MARTABAK SUPER 9 for dessertThe batter texture was between Ambon & Man Zhang Kueh. Unique and yummy. I like this honeycomb battle a lot! Seen here they also have a charcoal one with very generous filling including cheese. You can customise yours! Yum! I think it is enough to share for 3-4 people after a meal there.Absolutely loved the soothing and relaxing background music! The service was incredibly fast and friendly too. Walaku is the perfect spot for a quiet gathering with close friends or a peaceful escape from a busy day, offering delicious and satisfying food.Highly recommended!WALAKU102 Joo Chiat Rd,Singapore 427396#walaku #walakusg #NasiLemakBakarsg #hiddengemsg

The cheese martabak is delicious, so fluffy and not too sweet with lots of cheese filling, and the side menu that you must to try here is the shimeji salted egg. The salted egg is really crispy and the taste of the salted egg is very strong and not too spicy.

Our return visit after the revamp and I must say that it was worth it!Needless to say, my go-to has always been the ayam berempah (FAVVVV ) and the chicken was fried to perfection. Although deep fried, it didn’t feel oily at all. To top it off, the plating was a treat to the eyes. I also have to mention how fragrant the coconut rice was. Nicely wrapped in banana leaf and very well steamed or kukus they call it.Moving onto our 2nd main, we had the nasi goreng ulam ayam percik was okay. Was expecting a saucier chicken but it was rather dry. Well deep-fried whole leg chicken just like the Nasi lemak. But the carbs portion was a little more than the Nasi lemak.Last but not least, we explored their waffles over the murtabak manis and we did not regret it! Lived up to the raving reviews - crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Compliment well with our choice of ice cream: Dark Choc. All in all, we enjoyed our lunch experience over at Walaku. We’re definitely going for the pasta options on our next visit!

Why is nobody talking about the Kentang Ball? It's basically a massive bergedil in soto ayam and it made my heart souper warm and toasty!!! Also very filling with all the soup.Ordered the salted egg shimeji mushrooms as well, they were addictive.Dabaoed the ayam rendang nasi lemak for my husband, who is quite picky about his nasi lemak. He said it was really tasty - "the rice is very refined and the chicken is very refined." I don't know what refined is but it sounds good.

Went in on a quiet Tuesday night, there wasn’t much of a crowd. Service staff were friendly and food was served promptly. Everything we got was so so good surprisingly!! Especially love the nasi lemak rice wrapped in pandan leaf and the salmon salted egg pasta!! Will 100% be back to try more delicious food!!!

I enjoyed the cozy, casual dining atmosphere with soothing background music at this spot. Their fusion cuisine is top-notch—loved the flavorful Chicken Rendang Set and my kids couldn't get enough of the salted egg pasta. The Tom Yum Goong vermicelli was spicy and delicious, and the specialty Martabak in ondeh ondeh and red velvet flavors was the perfect finish. Highly recommend this Halal chill-out spot

Nice place to have lunch while exploring Joo Chiat. It’s a Halal eatery. They use long grain rice for their Nasi Lemak, and the most unique thing is that the rice is steamed in banana leaves, giving it a good aroma.I must mention their sambal because it’s the kind of taste I love! It’s the sweet and spicy kind, very sedap! We ended our meal with a scoop of dark chocolate gelato, and it was really good: very rich and chocolaty, and not too sweet.Staffs are very friendly too
